About Us
The Niagara Land Trust is a local non-profit dedicated to the conservation of wild places in the Niagara Peninsula. Niagara is home to some of the most ecologically significant areas in Canada, including rare Carolinian forests with old-growth trees, sparkling spring fed trout streams, cascading waterfalls, rolling hills, and ancient landscapes rich in biodiversity. We are committed to protecting more of Niagara’s natural areas for the benefit of both people and nature.
Why Trust Us
Protecting land in perpetuity requires care, expertise, and accountability. At the Niagara Land Trust, we are committed to safeguarding the peninsula’s natural heritage through thoughtful conservation practices, strong governance, and responsible long-term stewardship.
Grounded in Conservation Science
Our work is guided by ecological research and conservation best practices to identify and protect lands that are most important for biodiversity, habitat connectivity, and ecosystem health across the Niagara Peninsula.
Responsible Stewardship—Forever
Land protected through the Niagara Land Trust is safeguarded in perpetuity. We monitor conserved properties, maintain detailed stewardship plans, and ensure that the ecological values of each property are protected for future generations.
Aligned with National
Conservation Standards
Our organization operates in accordance with nationally recognized land conservation standards developed by the Canadian Land Trust Alliance through the Canadian Land Trust Standards and Practices. These guidelines establish best practices for governance, land protection, and stewardship.
Community-Based
Conservation
We work collaboratively with landowners, municipalities, conservation organizations, and community partners to protect the natural landscapes that make Niagara unique.
A Commitment
to the Future
Every property we protect contributes to a healthier and more resilient Niagara Peninsula—ensuring forests, wetlands, wildlife corridors, and rare ecosystems remain part of this landscape for generations to come.
